Volleyball Falls to Shippensburg in PSAC Semifinals, 3-2

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (November 20, 2015) - Despite winning the first two sets of the match, the Edinboro University volleyball team was defeated in the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament by Shippensburg, 3-2. For the sixth straight time, Edinboro and Shippensburg have required a fifth set to name a victor.

Appearing in the semifinals for the first time since 2010, the Fighting Scots jumped on top early, winning the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-19. The Raiders rallied to win the next three sets to advance to the PSAC Championship game to face either Pitt-Johnstown or Clarion on Saturday.

The duo of junior Latoya Hutchinson and sophomore Challen Litwiler led the Edinboro offense with 16 kills apiece. Hutchinson also recorded a team-high .353 hitting percentage. Litwiler's output increased her season total to 491 kills, the seventh-highest single season total in school history. Freshman Megan Screptock and junior Victoria Severo also totaled double-digit kills with 13 and 11, respectively. Sophomore Sydney Trathen paced the Fighting Scots attack with 51 assists. Trathen has recorded 1,305 assists this season, the eighth-highest single season total in program history.

Playing in her 510th career game as a Fighting Scot, the most all-time, Marah Maycock totaled a team-high 24 digs. Maycock has totaled 642 digs this year in her first season as libero, the fifth-highest total in single-season history. She also picked up her 154th career service ace, good for third all-time. Litwiler added 22 digs, increasing her season total to 482, the thirteenth-highest total in single season history.

The Fighting Scots will now await their fate in regards to the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA DII Women's Volleyball Selection Show is scheduled for Monday, November 23, at 7:30 p.m. Edinboro will look to make its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and third in the last five years.
