Edinboro Offense Explodes for Season-High 95 Points in in 95-61 Win over Mansfield

EDINBORO, Pa. (November 22, 2015) – The Edinboro University women's basketball team used a 31-point first quarter to take a commanding lead and never looked back as they held the lead the entire way to defeat Mansfield, 95-61. Four Fighting Scots scored in double-figures in the win. The Fighting Scots improve to 4-1 overall this season and 2-1 in the PSAC West, while the Mountaineers dropped to 1-2 overall, 1-2 in the PSAC East.
 
Lauren Hippo got the scoring started with a 3-pointer five seconds into the game to spark a 22-8 run to begin the game. The Fighting Scots hit five 3-pointers during the opening quarter, including three by Hippo. Edinboro took a 31-12 lead into the

It was more of the same in the second quarter as Edinboro took a 25-point lead on Michelle Jahn's second 3-pointer of the half. A 3-pointer by Katie Fischer, her fourth of the half, with 46 seconds left in the half gave Edinboro a 50-26 advantage going into the break.

Fischer led all scorers at the half with 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Hippo had 13 and Aignee' Freeland had four points with six rebounds. Making the first starts of their career, Jahn and Cheniya Sharpe had strong first halfs. Jahn had nine points on 3-of-4 shooting, including hitting 2-of-2 from deep. Sharpe had four points and a team-high seven rebounds. As a team, Edinboro shot 52.9 percent (18-of-34) from the field and an outstanding 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from three. The Fighting Scots held a 24-11 advantage on the glass.
 
Katie Fitzpatrick led the Mountaineers with 11 points at half on 4-of-6 shooting from the field. Brie Kelly had nine and a team-high three rebounds. Mansfield shot 10-of-28 from the field and hit just 2-of-7 shots from three.
 
The Mountaineers showed some life in the second half, starting the third quarter on a 16-7 run sparked by a Becky Evans 3-pointer, to cut the Edinboro lead to 58-42. The was the closest the Mountaineers would get the rest of the way as Edinboro built its lead up to its largest of the night in the fourth quarter, 89-54 and held on to win, 95-61.
 
Fischer led the Fighting Scots with 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including four 3-pointers. Hippo totaled 21 points, while hitting a team-high five 3-pointers on 5-of-10 shooting. Freeland had 19 points and tied a career-high with four blocks. Jahn scored 11 points on 3-of-7 shooting, including 2-of-3 from deep. Sharpe totaled four points in the game. In addition, Sharpe picked up three steals, eight boards, including five offensive rebounds. Edinboro finished the game shooting 54.7 percent (35-of-64) from the field and going 11-of-19 from three. The Fighting Scots dominated the glass, holding a 44-24 advantage.
 
Kelly and Fitzpatrick were the leading scorers for the Mountaineers with 11 points apiece. Fitzpatrick was also the leading rebounder for Mansfield with seven. The Mountaineers shot 41.0 percent (25-of-61) from the field and made 5-of-14 from beyond the arc.
 
The Fighting Scots hit the road for the first time in three games, heading to Virginia Union for a Wednesday night contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Barco-Stevens Hall.
