Hot-Shooting Lake Erie Storm Hands Edinboro 80-67 Defeat

EDINBORO, Pa. (Nov. 24, 2015) – A storm blew into McComb Fieldhouse on Tuesday night. Not the kind that Edinboro usually sees, with plenty of snow and wind. This one was the Lake Erie men's basketball team, which sizzled from the floor to hand Edinboro an 80-67 defeat in a non-conference game. The Fighting Scots wrapped up a four-game homestand with a 2-2 record, while The Storm improved to 3-1.

Jaymon Mason scored 20 points.
Lake Erie would shoot 61.5 percent from the floor on the evening. In fact, they were 16-for-26 from the field in both halves. That included a 9-for-22 showing from beyond the 3-point arc, good for 40.9 percent. The only place they struggled was at the free throw line, making just 7 of 15 (46.7 percent).

Edinboro, meanwhile, could never get its offensive game going, shooting just 39.0 percent from the floor (23 of 59). That included a dismal 2-for-13 from beyond the arc. The Fighting Scots made 19 of 22 free throws (86.4 percent). Edinboro would hold a 36-27 advantage on the boards.

The guard tandem of Henri Wade-Chatman and Jaymon Mason once again paced the Scots, combing for 41 points. However, the two would combine to make just 13 of 35 shots. Wade-Chatman scored a team-high 21 points, boosting his career total to 948 points. The senior guard moves into 29th place in career scoring, and is now 52 points shy of 1,000. He had five rebounds and three steals.

Mason added 20 points. The redshirt sophomore guard made 5 of 6 shots from the line, seeing his streak of 24 straight free throws to start the season come to an end.

Tommy Scales came in averaging 16.0 ppg., but the 6'8" senior was limited to nine points while leading Edinboro with eight rebounds. Art Cook came off the bench to contribute seven points and eight rebounds.

Lake Erie featured four players in double figures, led by Andy Bosley with 24 points. He made 9 of 16 field goals, including 3 of 8 3-pointers, and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Trey Howard and Sean Howard had 14 points apiece, while Michael Morris contributed 12 points.

Edinboro led just once, and that come on the very first possession as Mikael Anderson drve the lane for a layup. The team would be tied three times, with the Storm taking the lead for good at 9-6 on a Bosley 3-pointer four minutes into the game.

Lake Erie would build the lead to as many as 16 points in the first half at 35-19. Edinboro would cut the lead to nine points twice in the opening twenty minutes, going on a 9-2 run behind seven points from Wade-Chatman. His two free throws in the final minute made it 39-30 at the half.

Edinboro would cut the deficit to eight points at 46-38 with 16:11 remaining on a Scales jumper in the paint, but The Storm answered with a 17-6 run to take their biggest lead of the night at 67-47 with 7:12 remaining. The Scots cut the margin to 12 points with 1:38 to play, but could get no closer.

Edinboro returns to PSAC West action next Tuesday, December 1 playing at Mercyhurst. That contest begins a stretch of four straight games on the road.
