ERIE, Pa. – The Edinboro University men's basketball team played away from McComb Fieldhouse for the first time in 2015-16 on Tuesday, and faced the daunting task of playing at the Mercyhurst Athletic center against a Mercyhurst team picked to finish first in the PSAC West in the coaches' preseason poll. The Fighting Scots passed their first road test with flying colors, handing the Lakers a 77-67 defeat. Edinboro improved to 3-2 on the season and is 3-1 in the PSAC West. Mercyhurst dropped to 4-2 and 2-2, respectively.

Sheldon Brogdon bounced off the bench to key the victory as he buried five 3-pointers in seven attempts. The sophomore guard ended the night with 19 points in 34 minutes, both season highs. All told, he made 6-of-8 field goals and was 2-for-2 at the line.
Jaymon Mason also scored 19 points, going 6-for-7 at the free throw line, with six rebounds.
Tommy Scales scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half, and finished with his first double-double with 11 rebounds.
Henri Wade-Chatman turned in a strong all-around game with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Mercyhurst shot 42.9 percent for the game (24-of-56), but the Lakers made just one 3-pointer in 18 attempts. They were 18-for-26 at the line. Edinboro held a slight 30-29 edge in a hotly-contested battle on the boards. Mercyhurst committed 11 turnovers while Edinboro had 13, but just four in the second half.
The Lakers would jump out to an 11-4 lead less than six minutes into the game. Edinboro would outscore the Lakers, 26-13, the rest of the half to take a 30-24 lead at intermission. Mason had 10 points in the opening 20 minutes.
Mercyhurst came out pushing the tempo to start the second half and closed to a point on three occasions, the last at 38-37 with 15:59 to play. The Lakers shot seven free throws in the first four minutes.
A 7-0 run over the next minute boosted Edinboro's lead to 45-37. Scales hit a short jumper and free throw, with Brogdon and Wade-Chatman adding layups. Mercyhurst would never get closer than six points the rest of the way, and Edinboro eventually built the lead to 21 points at 66-45 with 7:13 to play.
The 21-6 scoring run started with three straight Brogdon rainbow 3-pointers. Scales then got into the act, as the 6'8" senior scored eight of Edinboro's next ten points, and
Michael Beck's layup off a Brogdon feed gave Edinboro the 21-point advantage.
The lead never fell under double digits the rest of the way, with Mercyhurst outscoring Edinboro, 7-2, over the final seventy seconds to make the final margin ten points.
Mercyhurst had three players score in double figures, led by Damon Jones' game-high 20 points. H'ian Hale and Sean Beins added 10 points apiece.
Edinboro has two more games remaining before breaking for final exams. The Fighting Scots face a pair of the PSAC East favorites, playing at East Stroudsburg on Friday, December 4, and at West Chester on Saturday, December 5.
