EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (Dec. 5, 2015) – Jaymon Mason's jumper with 2.9 seconds remaining capped an impressive road effort as the Edinboro University men's basketball team upset East Stroudsburg, 68-66, in Koehler Fieldhouse on Friday night. The victory comes on the heels of a win at Mercyhurst on Tuesday, as the Fighting Scots defeated the preseason favorites in the PSAC East and West in a four-day period. Tommy Scales had his second straight double-double.
Trailing 63-62 with under four minutes to play, the Fighting Scots grabbed the lead at 64-63 on a Tommy Scales' rebound basket with 3:36 to play.  Following a miss by both teams and an ESU turnover, Sheldon Brogdon boosted Edinboro's lead to 66-63 with 2:24 remaining.

The score remained there until 30 seconds were left to play, with Jamal Nwaniemeka nailing a 3-pointer out of a timeout to knot the score at 66-66. Mason came down and hit his game-winning jumper with 2.9 seconds remaining.  Najee Walls' 3-pointer just before the buzzer was no good.

Mason turned in another big night for the Fighting Scots. The redshirt sophomore guard scored a game-high 27 points and pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds. He added three steals and a pair of assists. While making just 9-of-26 field goal attempts, he was 6-for-12 from beyond the 3-point arc, and made all three of his free throw attempts.

Mason kept the Fighting Scots in the game in the first half, scoring 19 points as Edinboro rallied from an eight-point deficit to trail 37-36.

Edinboro opened the second half with a 19-9 run to take its biggest lead of the night at 55-46 with 12:43 to play on a pair of Henri Wade-Chatman. Scales scored six points during the run, as did Mason on a pair of three's.

East Stroudsburg responded with a 10-2 run over the next four minutes to pull with a point at 57-56 with 8:18 to play.  The Warriors eventually took a 61-60 lead to set up a back-and-forth final six-and-a-half minutes. The lead changed hands three times before Scales' rebound hoop.

The fast-paced game featured 39 turnovers, with ESU committing 21 and Edinboro 18. The Fighting Scots won despite shooting just 34.3 percent for the game (24-of-70). They would make 9-of-25 3-pointers and were a perfect 11-for-11 at the line. The Warriors shot 41.9 percent from the floor (26-of-62), but were just 3-for-23 on 3-pointers and 11-for-19 on free throws. ESU held a 45-41 advantage in rebounds.

Mason, Wade-Chatman and Scales combined for 57 of Edinboro's 68 points. Scales recorded his second straight double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, making 7-of-12 shots and pulling down six offensive boards. Wade-Chatman made just 1-of-5 shots in the first half as he was held to five points. He would enjoy a strong second half to finish with 14 points, adding five rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Wade-Chatman now has 976 career points, needing 24 more to join the 1,000-point club.
Brogdon came off the bench to contribute seven points in 23 minutes, while Mikael Anderson pulled down five rebounds in a reserve role before fouling out.

Steve Harris led four Warriors in double figures with 13 points, adding a game-high 14 rebounds. Rasheed Moore also had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Nwaniemeka and Quindell Brice had 12 points apiece.

Edinboro faces another big test on Saturday afternoon, play at West Chester at 2 p.m. The Rams were picked to finish in a tie for second in the PSAC East. After that, they break for more tests, as in final exams.
