Fighting Scots Turn Up the Defense in 76-33 Win over St. Augustine's

INDIANA, Pa. (Nov. 29, 2015) – The Edinboro University women's basketball team turned up the defense for the second straight day to earn a sweep of its two CIAA opponents in the IUP-Lodestar Classic at IUP's Kovalchick Complex on Sunday. The Fighting Scots coasted to a 76-33 win over St. Augustine's a day after holding Johnson C. Smith to 46 points. Edinboro is now 6-2 while St. Augustine's fell to 1-6.

The 33 points represented the lowest total allowed by the Fighting Scots since a 101-20 win over Washington Adventist in 2009-10.

Edinboro held the Falcons to just 23.4 percent shooting from the floor (11 of 47), including just 1 of 10 on 3-pointers. The Fighting Scots shot 46.2 percent (30 of 65) and were 7 of 16 on 3-pointers. In addition, they dominated the glass 49 boards, including 21 on the offensive end, to 25 for St. Augustine's. The Falcons were also guilty of 17 turnovers compared to 12 for Edinboro.

The Fighting Scots never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 21-7 lead after one quarter thanks to runs of eight and five straight points. The lead grew to 37-14 at the half and was 58-25 after three quarters. Allison Thompson's layup with four seconds left accounted for the final score and was Edinboro's largest lead of the game.

Michelle Jahn continued her impressive play as a freshman, leading Edinboro with 20 points. The guard from nearby General McLane High School made 7 of 11 field goals, including 5 of 7 3-pointers, and was 1 of 2 at the free throw line.

Aignee' Freeland added her second double-double of the season as the senior forward scored 11 points and pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive end.

All ten Fighting Scots who played scored, with Lauren Hippo contributing nine points and five assists. Whitney Allen had seven points and nine rebounds, while Katie Fischer totaled seven points and six assists.  Freshman Melanie Lindsey came off the bench to score seven points.

Sycoya Dorsey scored 16 points to lead St. Augustine's.

Edinboro will play its third game in four days on Tuesday, December 1 when they return to PSAC West action with a 5:30 p.m. contest at Mercyhurst.
