Michelle Jahn continued to emerge as one of the top 3-point threats in the PSAC. The Fighting Scots improved to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC West with the win and have now won three straight games while the Lakers dropped to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC West.
The 42 points was the lowest output of the season for Mercyhurst.
Michelle Jahn led Edinboro with 22 pointsThe two-time PSAC West Freshman of the Week, Jahn had the best shooting performance of her young career in the win. The local product from General McLane led the Fighting Scots with a team-high 22 points on 81 percent (9-of-11) shooting from the field. Jahn continued to display her shooting stroke from three, going 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Edinboro owned a 39-31 rebound advantage in the contest.
Edinboro shot 48.1 percent (25-of-52) from the field and 50 percent (5-of-10) from downtown. The Fighting Scots defense held the Lakers to just 28.6 percent (16-of-56) from the field and 7-of-23 from three.
Mercyhurst jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead less than three minutes into the game thanks in part to 3-pointers from Angela Heintz and Adrienne Kloecker. That was the only time they would taste the lead however as Edinboro finished the quarter on a 11-0 run, consisting of three
Aignee' Freeland layups and a
Katie Fischer jumper, to take a 13-10 lead into the second quarter.
The Fighting Scots never looked back, outscoring the Lakers 19-8 in the second period. Edinboro took a 32-18 lead into half and by the midway point of the fourth quarter, Edinboro had built it's lead up to as many as 25 points.
Freeland recorded her third double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and grabbing a team-high 12 rebounds. Fischer
Aignee' Freeland recorded her third double-doubletotaled 11 points and dished out six assists.
Whitney Allen pulled down eight boards and scored four points, while dishing out four assists.
Angela Heintz was the leading scorer for Mercyhurst with 15 points. Natalie Piaggesi was the Lakers leading rebounder with seven, including three offensive boards.
