Fighting Scots Withstand Late Push by East Stroudsburg, Hold on to Win 74-67

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (December 4, 2015) – The Edinboro University women's basketball team held on to win it's fourth straight game and improve to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the PSAC West. The Fighting Scots survived a late surge by East Stroudsburg to win, 74-67. With the loss, the Warriors drop to 1-7 overall and remain winless in the PSAC at 0-5.
 
With Edinboro owning an eight-point lead, it's biggest lead of the night, and 1:56 remaining in the game, East Stroudsburg went on a 5-0 run, highlighted by three second chance points and a bucket off a turnover, to cut the Edinboro lead to just three points with 34 seconds remaining. Forced to intentionally foul on the next possession, East Stroudsburg put Whitney Allen at the line and she hit both of her free throws, going 5-of-6 from the line in the game. On the subsequent possession, down 72-67, a costly turnover by Rachel Falkowski sealed the Warriors fate as Aignee' Freeland knocked down her free throws to end the game.

Whitney Allen had a strong well-rounded game
Michelle Jahn led the Edinboro offense with 22 points including hitting 5-of-11 3-pointers. Freeland totaled 15 points in addition to her eight rebounds and four assists. Whitney Allen turned in a strong well-rounded effort, scoring seven points, dishing out four assists and recording new career-highs with four blocks and 14 boards. Katie Fischer finished with 10 assists, her second double-digit assist game of the year.
 
Lauren Hippo finished with nine points and six boards. Junior Lindsay Jahn provided a spark off the bench, scoring a career-high nine points in 15 minutes.
 
Edinboro shot 38.5 percent (25-of-65) on the night while holding the Warriors to 34.9 percent (22-of-63) and just 28.1 percent (9-of-32) in the second half. The Warriors did a majority of their scoring down low, totaling 26 points in the paint to Edinboro's 16. The two teams were deadlocked at 43 rebounds apiece, but East Stroudsburg held a slim lead in the turnover battle, committing 12 to Edinboro's 14.
 
East Stroudsburg got the scoring started and jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead in the first four minutes of play. Edinboro scored the next two baskets to tie it, but East Stroudsburg responded with a 3-pointer by Allison Howard to take the lead again. The two teams traded baskets the rest of the way with Edinboro finishing the quarter on a 10-6 run to take a slim two-point lead into the second period.
 
The Warriors opened the second quarter with four unanswered points to take a 20-17 lead. After trading buckets again for a majority of the quarter, it was East Stroudsburg who closed out a quarter on a 10-6 run to own a 40-37 halftime lead.

After East Stroudsburg built it's lead up to as many as five with a little under eight minutes remaining in the third quarter, Edinboro responded with an 11-8 run, closed out by three successful Michelle Jahn throws after being fouled on a 3-pt. attempt, to enter the final period of play with a two-point lead.

Three Warriors scored in double figures, highlighted by Howard's 19-point and 13-rebound performance. Noelle Powell had 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including hitting 3-of-5 3-pointers. Tyeca Revieere added 10 points and five boards.
 
Edinboro is right back in action tomorrow afternoon, hitting the road again to face West Chester in a 2 p.m. tipoff.
