Katie Fischer's season-high 26 points, Edinboro couldn't overcome a disastrous second period.
On the strength on a 12-point quarter by Fischer, Edinboro took a slim 24-20 lead into the second period of play. With 8:22 remaining in the second, West Chester rattled off 14 unanswered points to take a 41-31 lead with just over three minutes to play in the half. A
Lauren Hippo 3-pointer stopped the bleeding momentarily, but the Golden Rams answered with a Kendall Benovy three of their own and added another basket to take a 12-point lead into halftime at 46-34. The Fighting Scots scored just three points in the final 8:22 of the second period.
The Golden Rams held a 21-12 rebound advantage at half and were shooting 53.6 percent (15-of-28) from the field, including going 7-of-12 from beyond the arc. Edinboro shot 41.9 percent (13-of-31) from the field and were also accurate from deep, going 6-for-12 on 3-pt. attempts. Edinboro had two scorers in double-figures at the break, Fischer with 17 and Hippo with 10.
The Fighting Scots could not overcome the second quarter deficit, never cutting the lead to single-digits the rest of the way. The lead grew to as many as 17 points in the third quarter.
Edinboro ended the day shooting 40.9 percent (27-of-66) from the field and 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from three. West Chester finished a 47.4 percent (27-of-57) field goal percentage and converted 8-of-18 3-pt. attempts. The Golden Rams held a 41-33 advantage on the glass and West Chester's bench outscored Edinboro's, 26-0.
Fischer finished as the game's leading scorer with 26 points on 11-of-18 shooting, including going 4-of-6 from deep.
Aignee' Freeland picked up her fourth double-double of the season and third in the last four games, totaling 18 points and 11 rebounds. Hippo finished with 15 points and five assists. Freshman
Michelle Jahn cooled off a bit, being held to nine points on 3-of-14 shooting.
Benovy led six Golden Rams in double digits with 18 points on a near perfect 7-of-9 shooting performance. She grabbed 13 boards to complete the double-double. Camden Boehner and Mariah Powell finished with 13 points apiece and Anna Kuntz totaled 12. Dallas Ely and Brittany Sicinski finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Edinboro now gets a week long break for finals week before returning to action on Saturday December 12 as they travel to Amherst, N.Y. to take on Daemen.
