Women’s Basketball Falls to IUP in PSAC Semifinals

 
Erie, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team dropped a 71-55 decision to IUP on Saturday in the PSAC Championship Semifinals. The Scots will await Sunday's NCAA selection show to see if their season will continue.
 
Edinboro came out of the gate fast scoring the first five points of the contest on a Rachael Manfredo layup and a Hope Garrity 3-pointer. Nyshae' Weaver stopped the run for the Crimson Hawks with a pair of free throws.
 
The Scots responded with six straight points with two each from Ava Haddad, Maura Suman and Taylor Blunt to take an 11-2 lead with 5:48 left in the opening quarter. IUP finished the quarter with a 13-4 run to knot the score 15-15 heading to the second quarter.
 
IUP opened the second quarter with a 10-5 spurt to grab a 25-20 lead on a Weaver layup at the 5:38 mark. Garrity and Taylor Phillips hit triples on either side of a pair of Ellie Wilkerson free throws to pull the Scots within 27-26 with 4:04 on the clock. IUP went on a 13-5 run to build a 40-31 lead. Manfedo hit a 3-pointer with 24 seconds left to cut the halftime deficit to 40-34.
 
The Crimson Hawks used a 15-6 third quarter to build a 55-40 lead heading to the final frame. The Scots wouldn't get closer than 16 the rest of the way.
 
The Scots are 19-13 overall and were ranked ninth heading into the PSAC Championship Tournament in which they won a pair of games to make the semifinals.
 
Manfredo led the Scots with 21 points, six rebounds and two steals. Phillips added 13 points, two boards and two assists.
 
Teresa Maggio lead the Crimson Hawks with 19 points. Wilkerson finished with 18 and Weaver tallied a double-double of 12 points and 13 boards.
 
Edinboro were ranked ninth in the Atlantic Region on Wednesday and will await the selection show Sunday to see if their season will continue in the NCAA Regional Tournament.
