EDINBORO, Pa. (December 19, 2015) – The Edinboro University women's basketball team struggled from the floor in Saturday afternoon's 74-59 loss to the visiting Indiana(Pa.) Crimson Hawks, shooting a season-low 30.3 percent (20-of-66) from the field. The Fighting Scots failed to break 60 points for a second straight game. With the loss, Edinboro is now 9-5 overall and an even 4-4 in the PSAC West. The Crimson Hawks, meanwhile, improve to 9-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
The opening quarter was back-and-forth the entire way, featuring five tie scores. The second period was much of the same before a 5-0 IUP run with 1:56 remaining in the half gave the Crimson Hawks a six-point lead with a minute left to play. A
Michelle Jahn 3-pointer cut the lead in half with 44 seconds remaining, but IUP added a final layup by Kendall Hunter to take a 35-30 lead into halftime.
Freeland led Edinboro with 20 pointsAignee' Freeland led all scorers at the half with 12 points. The Crimson Hawks' Zhane Brooks had seven points and 10 rebounds.
The Crimson Hawks scored the first five points of the second half to build their lead to 41-30 less than two minutes into the third period and built their lead up to as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter. IUP held a double-digit lead for all but one minute of the final period of play.
Freeland led the Fighting Scots with 20 points and six boards.
Michelle Jahn got back into double-digit scoring after failing to do so the past three outings, totaling 18 points and a team-high 3-of-8 3-pointers.
Lauren Hippo added 11 points.
Katie Fischer totaled six points, tying a season-low, and had a stretch of 11-straight misses before snapping the cold streak with a layup.
The Fighting Scots missed a season-high 18 3-pointers, shooting just 18.2 percent (4-of-22) from three.
Edinboro was outrebounded for a third-straight game as the Crimson Hawks held a 44-37 margin on the glass. Brooks led IUP with a double-double of 20 points and 16 rebounds, including nine offensive boards. Marina Wareham added 14 points and Brittany Robinson totaled 10 points off the bench. The Crimson Hawks shot 46.3 percent (25-of-54) from the field and were 5-of-11 from beyond the arc.
The Fighting Scots will break for the holidays before returning back to action on Sunday, January 3, 2016. Edinboro hits the road for a contest with Lock Haven to ring in the New Year. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
