Edinboro Ties School Record for Goals in 19-4 Victory at Alderson Broaddus

PHILLIPI, W. Va. (March 15, 2015) – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team matched a school record for goals scored on Sunday morning, while Rebecca Martin broke the Edinboro record for points in a game in a 19-7 victory over host Alderson Broaddus at Battler Stadium in Phillipi, W. Va. The Fighting Scots tied the record set on five other occasions, the last coming in a 19-5 win over West Virginia Wesleyan on April 3, 2014.
 
Martin tallied 12 points, including three goals and nine assists to break her own school record of 11 points from last season against West Virginia Wesleyan. Martin eclipsed 100 career points on Sunday against Alderson Broaddus. She now has 101 career points, good for fifth in school history. Edinboro's all-time leader in assists, Martin now has 59 career assists.
 
With the win, Edinboro improves to 2-0 on the season, while the Battlers fall to 1-4. Sunday's game was originally scheduled for March 6, but postponed due to poor weather conditions.
 
The Fighting Scots will also take on West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Buckhannon W. Va.
 
Hannah Fitzgerald and Anny Purdy each paced Edinboro with four goals, while Martin and Cydney Hrycko added three scores apiece.
 
Anna Purdy finished with five points, dishing out four assists to go along with one goal in the win.
 
Paige Skinner improved to 2-0 in net, playing all 60 minutes and making six saves for Edinboro
 
Cynthia Rice led the Battlers with three goals, while Tia Kline contributed a pair of scores.
 
The Fighting Scots outshot Alderson Broaddus 34-13 in the contest, including a 27-12 advantage in shots on goal. Edinboro also posted an 18-9 advantage in draw controls.
 
The Fighting Scots tallied 19 goals in a game on three occasions last season, including against these same Battlers by a score of 19-2. Edinboro topped Wheeling Jesuit 19-4 to open the season. The Fighting Scots also scored 19 goals in a 19-3 defeat of Lees-McRae during the 2013 campaign and in a 19-4 win at Catawba in 2012.
 
Edinboro returns to action at 1 p.m. Sunday against West Virginia Wesleyan. The Fighting Scots then open the home portion of their schedule along with PSAC play hosting Shippensburg next Saturday, March 21 at Sox Harrison Stadium.
