EDINBORO, Pa. (April 14, 2015) – The injury-depleted Edinboro women's lacrosse team fell victim to Slippery Rock's high-scoring attack on Tuesday afternoon. The Fighting Scots suffered their fifth straight loss by a 19-6 score to fall to 6-6 overall and 3-6 in PSAC action. Slippery Rock improved to 6-7 and 4-4, respectively.
The SRU trio of Erin Wilcox, Kaytlin Callaghan and Paige Costantino came in with 109 combined goals and combined for nine goals and 15 points. Wilcox and Costantino accounted for The Rock's first four goals as SRU took a 4-1 lead less than three minutes into the match. Each scored twice, with Costantino and Callaghan assisting on the Wilcox goals.
Rebecca Martin's 12th goal of the season closed the gap to 4-2 with 24:21 remaining in the half, but that is as close as the Fighting Scots would get. Slippery Rock ran off six straight goals and would lead 11-3 at the half. The Rock would add two more goals to start the second half while pulling away.
Rachel Olson paced Edinboro with three goals, with
Emily Peters accounting for Edinboro's other two goals.
Paige Skinner and
Amanda Zbinovec shared time in goal, finishing with seven saves.
Ten different players scored goals for Slippery Rock, led by Callaghan, Wilcox and Costantino with three apiece. Costantino added four assists.
Edinboro will return to action on Friday, April 17 playing at 16th-ranked West Chester. Four of Edinboro's losses this season have come to ranked opponents.
