Edinboro Drops PSAC Road Contest at No. 16 West Chester

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) WEST CHESTER, Pa. (April 17, 2015) – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team fell by a score of 23-6 to No. 16 West Chester in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup on Friday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field in West Chester, Pa. The Fighting Scots move to 6-7 on the season and 3-7 in PSAC play, while the Golden Rams improved to 9-4 overall and 7-3 in the conference.
 
Including Friday's contest, five of Edinboro's seven losses have come to ranked opponents. In addition, another loss came to Indiana (Pa.), who is receiving votes in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Rankings.
 
West Chester used a 28-8 shot advantage to take a 17-4 halftime lead. Rebecca Martin got the Fighting Scots on the board first on an assist by Anna Purdy to even the score at 1-1. The Golden Rams answered with two goals to take a 3-1 victory, before Purdy found the back of the net on an unassisted goal with 19:12 to play in the first half to minimize the deficit to 3-2.
 
After West Chester responded with four straight goals to gain a 7-3 lead, Martin found Emily Peters for a goal to shrink the Golden Rams' lead to 7-3 with 14:44 showing on the first half clock.
 
However, West Chester would outscore the Fighting Scots 10-1 from that point on to take a 17-4 halftime lead. Rachel Olson scored the lone goal for Edinboro during the stretch.
 
The Golden Rams opened the half with three straight goals to gain a 20-4 advantage, before Peters added two more scores, both on assists by Martin to cut the West Chester lead to 20-6. The Golden Rams would add three more goals to close the contest.
 
Peters finished with three goals to pace the Fighting Scots. The sophomore is now tied for seventh in a single season in Edinboro history with 33 goals.
 
Martin finished with a team-high four points, scoring one goal while dishing out three assists.
 
Ashley Pyle led West Chester with three goals, while Dina Cifelli tallied a game-high five points with a pair of goals and three assists for the Golden Rams.
 
The Fighting Scots return to action tomorrow at East Stroudsburg at 2 p.m.
