Wightman Named Women’s Lacrosse Coach

EDINBORO, Pa. – Edinboro athletics announced the hiring of Bill Wightman as the sixth head coach of the Fighting Scot women's lacrosse team.
 
"We are excited to welcome Coach Wightman to Edinboro," said Director of Athletics Dr. Katherine Robbins. "He brings a wealth of lacrosse knowledge and a track record of success. His experience and ability to develop student athletes will benefit our women's lacrosse players on and off the field."
 
Wightman comes to Edinboro after spending five seasons at Thiel including four seasons as the Tomcats head coach. Wightman posted a 33-27 record and was 11-5 in his final season at Thiel. He led the Tomcats to a pair of President Athletic Conference postseason appearances.
 
In his time at Thiel, had multiple players earn all-conference awards. In 2025, Wightman coached both the PAC Midfielder and Goalie of the Year in Ashlyn Wightman and Madison Liggett.
 
"I'm honored to be named the next Head Women's Lacrosse Coach at Edinboro," said Wightman. "I want to thank Dr. Katherine Robbins and Chad Williams, along with everyone who took the time to be part of the hiring process, and for this opportunity. I'm excited to become part of the campus community and represent Edinboro. I can't wait to get on campus, connect with our team, and start this next chapter."
 
Prior to coaching at Thiel, he served as the boys' varsity head coach at Shaler Area High School. He was the boys' junior varsity head coach and was an assistant varsity coach at Shaler before being promoted to boys' varsity head coach. From 1994-98, he served as an assistant coach at Bethel Park High School. 
 
Whitman also brings playing experience with him. He was a member of the Philadelphia Box Lacrosse Association, the Pittsburgh Lacrosse Club and Shaler Area High School.
