Fighting Scots Fall 18-8 at East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (April 18, 2015) – East Stroudsburg scored the final ten goals of the match in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon to earn an 18-8 victory over the Edinboro women's lacrosse team in East Stroudsburg, Pa. The Fighting Scots fell to 6-8 on the season and 3-8 in PSAC play, while the Warriors improved to 8-6 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
 
After East Stroudsburg took a 1-0 lead, Anna Purdy evened the score at 1-1 with a goal with just over 25 minutes to play in the first half.
 
The two teams then traded goals, as the Warriors struck first to gain a 2-1 advantage, before Emily Peters found the back of the net on an assist by Alexa Healy to knot the game at 2-2.
 
East Stroudsburg took a 3-2 lead, but Edinboro scored two straight goals by Healy and Cydney Hrycko to gain a 4-3 advantage.
 
The Warriors answered with five consecutive scores to gain an 8-4 advantage, before Hrycko added another score with just one second showing on the first half clock to cut the East Stroudsburg lead to 8-5 at the half.
 
The Fighting Scots would score three straight goals to open the second half, as Purdy, Peters, and Rebecca Martin each found the back of the net to even the score at 8-8 with 16:42 to play in the contest.
 
Unfortunately for Edinboro, the Warriors would score 10 unanswered goals to close the match, earning the 18-8 triumph.
 
East Stroudsburg held advantages of 36-19 in shots and 20-7 in draw controls en route to the win.
 
Hrycko, Peters, and Purdy each tallied two goals to pace the Fighting Scots. Healy contributed a goal and two assists, while Martin chipped in a goal and an assist. Paige Skinner made nine saves in net for Edinboro.
 
 Kaitlynn Wiltraut scored a game-high seven goals for the Warriors.
 
The Fighting Scots return to action in their season finale against PSAC local rival Gannon on Wednesday, April 22. Match time is set for 4 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.
