Both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor, with Cal ending at 53.2 percent (25-of-47) and Edinboro at 52.4 percent (33-of-63). The rebound battle was near even with Cal holding a slight 29-27 edge, but Edinboro held a huge difference in terms of turnovers. The Fighting Scots committed just seven turnovers while forcing 16 miscues. It led to a 24-8 advantage in points off turnovers. The 89 points were the highest since Edinboro scored 105 points in a souble overtime win over Gannon in mid-December.

Cal came out on fire, making their first seven shots. The Vulcans jumped out to a 22-16 lead less than seven minutes into the game, but Edinboro followed with a 19-2 run over the next five minutes, all courtesy of Wade-Chatman, Scales and Beck. Wade Chatman scored eight points, including knocking down a pair of 3-pointers, with Scales scoring six points and Beck five.

Leading 46-40 at the half, Edinboro built the lead to 17 points in the second half. That came at 64-47 with 13:10 left in the second half thanks to a 12-2 run. Mason got things started with a three, with Wade-Chatman following with a jumper, followed by a steal and a layup. After a Richard Smith dunk, one of four by the Cal center on the night, Mason drained another three and Scales scored on a layup.
