CLARION, Pa. (January 23, 2016) – The Edinboro University men's swimming team placed first in nine events Saturday to take a PSAC road win at Clarion, 148-143. The Fighting Scots moved to 3-3 while the Golden Eagles dropped to 2-5.
Junior
Justin Ransel had a team-high four wins. Senior
Micah Cattell and freshman
Marcus Grosso each posted a trio of victories. Freshman
Francis Folz had one first-place finish and two second-place finishes, separated from first in both contests by a combined .04 seconds.
The four-man group of Grosso,
Luke Frederick, Ransel, and Cattell won the 200-yard medley relay by .69 seconds with a mark of 1:38.72. Ransel and Cattell later paired up with
Francis Folz and
Alex Shugarts to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:27.24.
Ransel also had a victory in the 100-yard freestyle at a time of 48.62. Folz finished .01 seconds behind him with a mark of 48.63. Ransel's fourth win was in the 100-yard butterfly, winning the race by .65 seconds at a time of 53.83.
Grosso took a pair of victories in the 100-yard backstroke at a time of 54.71 and the 200-yard backstroke at 2:03.73. Cattell and Folz finished one-two in the 50-yard freestyle, with just .03 seconds separating them. Cattell took first at a time of 22.06 while Folz placed second at 22.09.
Josh Beabout took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle at a time of 10:11.20.
Alex Shugarts finished second with a time of 10:33.87 and
Ryne Fromholzer placed third at 10:36.79.
Luke Frederick placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 59.90.
