EDINBORO, Pa. (October 14, 2016) – The Edinboro University volleyball team is now just one win away from tying the longest win streak in program history after a comeback 3-2 victory over Clarion on Friday night. With the win, the fifteenth consecutive for the Fighting Scots, Edinboro improves to 15-4 overall and remains in sole possession of first place in the PSAC Northwest with an unblemished 8-0 conference mark. Clarion dropped to 11-9 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
Four Fighting Scots finished in double-digit kills, led by
Challen Litwiler with 17. Seniors
Victoria Severo and
Latoya Hutchinson totaled 16 and 13 kills, respectively. Sophomore
Megan Screptock added 11 kills of her own. Litwiler also added 16 digs to record her fifth-straight double-double.
Sydney Trathen paced the Edinboro attack, dishing out 46 assists from her setter position.
Freshman
Jordan Van Oss led the Edinboro defense with a team-high 17 digs. The Fighting Scots finished with 9 total blocks, led by Severo with five block assists.
Molly Owens totaled four block assists while Screptock and Hutchinson each added two block assists. Screptock also recorded a block solo in the match.
Five Golden Eagles ended with double-figure kills, including Olivia Olson with a team-high 14. Mackenzie Biggs and Taylor Braunagel added 13 digs apiece, while Lauryn Driscoll and Marissa Robertson finished with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Robertson also led Clarion defensively, with a team-high 20 digs.
The Fighting Scots are right back in action at home tomorrow afternoon hosting Indiana (Pa.) at 2 p.m. That match will also be Edinboro's annual "Dig for the Cure" match with this year's event being dedicated to former Fighting Scot Jenna Benkelman. Jenna is currently battling breast cancer and will be in attendance, along with her mother Linda, for tomorrow's contest.
