EDINBORO, Pa. –
Ashley Mutkus scored her eighth goal of the season, but Cassidy LeDonne scored for Indiana(Pa.) in the 78th minute as Edinboro suffered a 2-1 loss in a PSAC women's soccer match at chilly Sox Harrison Stadium. The loss dropped the 23rd-ranked Fighting Scots to 12-3-1 overall and 11-3-1 in the PSAC, while IUP improved to 9-8-0 and 8-7-0, respectively.
Edinboro has already clinched a home playoff game in the PSAC Tournament on November 1, but the setback drops the Fighting Scots into third place. Edinboro concludes the regular season on Saturday, October 29, hosting Mansfield at 11 a.m.
The victory was a key one for IUP, as the Crimson Hawks moved into a tie for seventh place with Shippensburg, one point ahead of Bloomsburg. The win was the first against Edinboro since 2009.
After a pair missed opportunities on breakaways in the first half, IUP took a 1-0 lead at 22:47 as McKenna Keffel gathered in a rebound in front of the net off a save from
Sarah Baskey and redirected it into the back of the net. Lexie Palluconi assisted on the goal.
Edinboro would knot the score at 1-1 at 57:36 as she scored her ninth goal on a scramble in front of the net. Surrounded by three Crimson Hawks, the junior squeezed the ball into the right corner of the net. Mutkus takes over the team scoring lead with 21 points.
IUP would score the game winner at the 77:49 mark off a free kick. Hannah Stoof lofted the ball to the right side of the goal, and LeDonne jumped high and headed the ball into the left corner of the net.
Edinboro held an 18-14 advantage in shots, with 11 of those in the second half. Baskey finished with three saves, while IUP's Jessica Printz had three saves, as well.
