First-Place Fighting Scots Push Win Streak to Twelve with 3-1 Victory at California (Pa.)

CALIFORNIA, Pa. (October 7, 2016) – The PSAC Northwest leading Edinboro University volleyball team stayed perfect in conference play with a 3-1 victory at California (Pa.) on Friday night, snapping the Vulcans five-game winning streak. With the win, the twelfth in a row, the Fighting Scots improved to 12-4 overall and 5-0 in conference play while the Vulcans dropped to 12-4 overall and received their first conference loss of the season to sit at 4-1 in the PSAC.
 
Edinboro is four games shy of tying the longest win streak in school history set by the 2010 edition under head coach Missy Soboleski.
 
The Fighting Scots took the first two sets of the night by identical scores of 25-21 before California took the third set, 25-19, to stay alive. The Vulcans jumped out to a quick 7-3 lead in the fourth set but were unable to sustain the pace as Edinboro closed out the contest with a 25-23 victory in the final set.
 
Junior Challen Litwiler paced the Edinboro attack with a team-high 13 kills. Sophomore Megan Screptock added nine kills, while seniors Latoya Hutchinson and Victoria Severo totaled eight apiece. Junior Sydney Trathen contributed six kills while also dishing out a team-high 39 assists. Screptock added a pair of service aces and four assists as well.
 
A trio of Fighting Scots finished with double-digit digs, led by Screptock's 22 digs. That figure ties a career-high. Litwiler and Trathen both finished with 15 digs. Severo finished with a career-high three block solos and added a block assist. Freshman Molly Owens led Edinboro with three block assists.
 
California's Danielle Hayes finished with a game-high 17 kills on 53 attempts. Seairra Barrett was the only other Vulcan in double-figures, adding 11 kills.
 
The Fighting Scots return to action tomorrow afternoon, facing another team riding a five-game winning streak when they head to Seton Hill for a 1 p.m. match. The Griffins are also a perfect 5-0 in conference play entering Saturday's contest.
