Edinboro Defeats Mercyhurst in Three Sets; Hosts Gannon on Saturday with Northwest Division Title on the Line

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro women's volleyball team defeated Mercyhurst, 3-0, on Friday night to set up a winner-take-all match on Saturday afternoon against Gannon. The Fighting Scots ran their winning streak to six straight matches with a 25-15, 26-24, 25-9 win over the Lakers at McComb Fieldhouse. Edinboro improved to 23-6 overall, while Mercyhurst is now 15-13, with a 7-10 record in PSAC action.

The victory leaves Edinboro tied with Gannon at 15-2 in the Northwest Division, with the two teams assured of being the top two seeds in the upcoming PSAC Tournament. However, the highest seeded team from the west will earn the right to host the PSAC Final next weekend following Tuesday's quarterfinal matches. Gannon won the first meeting with Edinboro in five sets. The rematch is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday at McComb Fieldhouse.
 
Edinboro avenged its other conference defeat this evening with the convincing win over Mercyhurst. The key was an exciting second-set victory, as the Fighting Scots rallied from a 24-21 deficit to run off the final five points for the win. Edinboro then dominated the third set.
 
Victoria Severo had another impressive night offensively, finishing with 12 kills in 17 attempts, an impressive .706 hitting percentage. The balanced attack also featured Megan Screptock and Latoya Hutchinson with nine kills, while Challen Litwiler had eight. Sydney Trathen had 42 assists and 10 digs, while Litwiler recorded a team-high 13 digs.
