Mason Flirts with Triple Double, Anderson Scores Career High as Edinboro Wins at Lake Erie, 87-75

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Jaymon Mason fell three assists shy of a triple double, and Mikael Anderson scored a career-high 19 points, as the Edinboro men's basketball team picked up an 87-75 win at Lake Erie on Wednesday night. It was the first road game for Edinboro, as head coach Pat Cleary's team improved to 2-0 on the young season. Lake Erie is now 0-3.
 
Mason posted his fifth career 30-point game, and fourth double-double, as the junior guard scored 31 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, and handed out seven assists. He made 11-of-17 field goals, including 6-of-10 3-pointers, and was 3-of-5 at the line. Mason boosted his career total to 989 points in just 55 games.
 
Anderson proved a huge complement as the senior forward made 5-of-11 field goals, including a 3-pointer, and went 8-of-11 at the line. Andre Frederick came off the bench to add 12 points and nine rebounds in 19 minutes, making 6-of-7 field goals.

In a game which saw ten ties and seven lead changes, Edinboro held a 36-34 lead at the half. The tenth and final tie came at 53-53 with 12:33 to play. Edinboro's lead was just 63-60 midway through the half when the Fighting Scots scored six straight points to take a 69-60 lead with 8:05 to play. Justin Sylver made a free throw, with Mason nailing a three, and Frederick capping the run with a layup.
 
The Storm came back with five straight points to close the gap to 69-65, but they would get no closer. Edinboro finally put the game of a reach with 12-4 run over a three-plus minute stretch. Five different players scored, with Mason and Anderson dropping in threes. That gave Edinboro an 83-71 lead with 2:01 remaining.
 
Edinboro shot 52.6 percent for the game (30-of-57), including 60.0 percent in the second half (15-of-25). That included 5-of-6 3-pointers over the final twenty minutes. In addition, Edinboro made 16-of-24 free throws in the half, compared to 4-of-8 for Lake Erie. The Storm shot 44.0 percent (33-of-75) on the evening, and was just 4-for-9 at the line.
 
The Fighting Scots held a 41-35 advantage on the glass. Edinboro committed 15 turnovers compared to nine for the Storm.
 
The Fighting Scots will open up PSAC play this weekend with a pair of crossover contests. Edinboro plays at Millersville on Saturday, November 19, then plays at Shippensburg on Sunday, November 20.
