EDINBORO, Pa. (November 23, 2016) – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) just released its first regular season national rankings. The Edinboro University men's tennis team was ranked 47th, while junior
Vitor Albanese was ranked eighth in singles. The Fighting Scots finished the fall leg of their season with a 3-0 record, with Albanese 15-2 in singles play.
The Fighting Scots and Albanese were the PSAC's lone selections in their respective polls. Edinboro opened the year with wins against Grove City, Fairmont State and Walsh. Head coach
Lee Underwood's team was ranked 49th in the ITA's 2015-16 final national rankings after reaching the NCAA Sweet 16.
Albanese captured the ITA Oracle Atlantic Region singles title on September 25, and followed that up with winning his second straight PSAC singles crown on October 9. The Brazil native competed at the ITA Oracle Cup in Surprise, Ariz. from October 13-16, where he finished sixth.
Hawaii Pacific topped the national poll, with Saint Leo in second and Armstrong State, Edinboro's opponent in last year's NCAA Sweet 16, in third. Lander was ranked fourth, while Valdosta State finished out the top five.
Azusa State's Oliver Frank was ranked the nation's top singles player, while Ahmed Triki was ranked second. Valdosta State's Leo Blay was third, followed by Armstrong State's Alberto Casas in fourth and Midwestern's Ramon Toyos in fifth.
