EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro University volleyball team came out of the gate scorching and Kutztown could never recover as the Fighting Scots scored their fourth straight victory with a 3-0 win over the Golden Bears on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Edinboro improved to 21-6 overall and 13-2 in the PSAC while Kutztown dropped to 5-21 overall and 2-13 in conference action. The win also clinched a playoff berth for the Fighting Scots for the second consecutive season.
Despite action getting underway a half hour before previously scheduled, the Fighting Scots came out ready to play. Edinboro dominated the first set by a score of 25-13, including registering a .484 hitting percentage to Kutztown's .160. The Golden Bears played much tougher in the second and third set, but the Fighting Scots proved to be too much to handle as they recorded the three-set sweep with 25-19 and 25-21 victories on the second and third set, respectively.
Seniors
Victoria Severo and
Latoya Hutchinson led the way for the Fighting Scots offensively, totaling ten and nine kills, respectively. Sophomore
Megan Screptock added seven kills while junior
Challen Litwiler tallied six. Sophomore
Hannah Cantrill picked up five kills, while junior
Sydney Trathen contributed four to go along with her team-high 35 assists.
Litwiler added 13 digs on the defensive end while Severo controlled the front of the net with a block solo and two block assists. Hutchinson and Cantrill also totaled two block assists each.
Kutztown was led by Brittney Moyer with six kills. Tori Wakelee added five. Madison Brake picked up a team-high 20 digs from her libero spot. The Golden Bears registered just 19 kills in the match, the second lowest total against the Fighting Scots all season. Edinboro held Kutztown to just a .092 hitting percentage.
Edinboro continues its five-game homestand to conclude the regular season on Tuesday, November 8. The Fighting Scots host Slippery Rock for a 7 p.m. conference match.
