EDINBORO, Pa. (April 10, 2016) – Seven Edinboro women's lacrosse players were honored as part of Senior Day prior to their match against Millersville on Sunday. Senior attacker
Anna Purdy celebrated with a match-high five goals, but it would not be enough as the Fighting Scots fell to the Marauders, 16-8, at Sox Harrison Stadium. Edinboro dropped to 6-7 and 1-7 in the PSAC, while Millersville improved to 8-5 and 5-4 in the PSAC.
First-year head coach
Caitlin Formato and her squad recognized
Molly Campion,
Cydney Hrycko,
Rebecca Martin,
Hannah Mong,
Britney Myers, Purdy and
Mackenzie Waterston for their career-long contributions to the program. All seven started the contest, with Waterston starting in net for the Boro.
Millersville began by scoring five of the first six goals, with Abby Mack giving the Maruaders the early lead with a goal just 47 seconds into the contest. Hrycko knotted the match up at one with a goal just over a minute later, but the Marauders responded with four straight goals to take a 5-1 lead with 20:21 left in the opening half. After sophomore goalie
Paige Skinner replaced Waterston in net, Purdy broke Edinboro's silence by notching her first goal of the afternoon with 14:42 to play in the half. The Marauders tallied three more goals, including two by Sabrina Fusco, to take an 8-2 lead at intermission.
Purdy opened the second half with her second goal to pull Edinboro to within five goals with 28:52 remaining. That would be as close as the Fighting Scots would get, as Millersville responded with four straight goals and would extend their lead to as much as nine goals on two occasions in the closing half. Purdy tallied three more goals in the second half, with Hrycko and
Haleigh Wright accounting for the remainder of the Scots' goals on the afternoon.
Purdy finished tied with Fusco with a match-high five goals. Purdy became Edinboro's leading scorer with 49 points on 29 goals and 20 assists.
