EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (April 2, 2016) – The Edinboro University women's lacrosse team struggled to get out of the gate on the road at East Stroudsburg as the fell victim to a 17-4 defeat on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the fourth straight, the Fighting Scots sit at 5-6 overall and 1-6 in the PSAC. The Warriors improved to 10-2 overall and 5-2 in the conference, winning their sixth contest in the past seven outings.
The Fighting Scots drew first blood in the match, as
Emily Peters scored the first goal less than two minutes into the game on an assist from Becca Martin. The Warriors would score nine of the next ten goals in the first period, however, as East Stroudsburg took an 8-3 lead into the break.
Cydney Hrycko and
Anna Purdy scored the other two goals for the Fighting Scots in the first period, with Purdy's coming with 24 seconds remaining in the period.
The Warriors scored the first four goals of the second period as they jumped out to a 12-3 lead with 17:54 remaining in the game. Becca Martin broke the streak as she tallied her 20
th goal of the season to make the score 12-4 with 16:22 left to play. That proved to be Edinboro's final goal of the day as the Warriors tallied on five more goals in the second period.
Nine different Warriors got on the score sheet, led by Whitney Wilkinson and Kaitlynn Witraut with three goals a piece.
Paige Skinner got the start in goal, recording 12 saves in the loss. Skinner is now 4-6 on the season. Jessica Maxwell recorded her ninth win of the season, improving to 9-2 on the year.
