EDINBORO, Pa. (May 3, 2015) – After capturing its third consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title on Saturday, the Edinboro men's tennis team booked a reservation to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional for the third straight season. For the first time in program history, head coach
Lee Underwood's team will host the Atlantic Regional II Championships on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8.
The NCAA announced on Tuesday night that the Fighting Scots have earned the second seed in the region. Edinboro will receive a first-round bye and play in the finals on Sunday at 12 noon against the winner of the semifinal match between sixth-seeded Mercyhurst (10-8, 4-1 PSAC) and third-seeded and Mountain East Conference champion West Liberty (17-5, 8-1 MEC). That match will take place on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The winner will advance to the NCAA Division II Round of 16 in Denver, Co. on May 18-21.
"We are very excited to be hosting the men's NCAA D-2 Atlantic II Regional," said Underwood. "It is shaped up to 3 teams that all has 5-4 and 6-3 scores during regular season. We will work hard to prepare this week for it."
The Atlantic Regional I Championships will be hosted by top-seeded Bluefield State, with the semifinal match consisting of fourth-seeded West Virginia Wesleyan and fifth-seeded Chowan.
Armed with seven freshmen and two sophomores, the Fighting Scots have made school history with a program-best 22-3 record, going 5-0 in PSAC play during the season.
