WEST LIBERTY, W.V. (September 11, 2016) – Two Edinboro singles players and one doubles team were crowned champions Saturday on the final day of the 2016 Topper Classic, hosted by West Liberty University. Junior
Vitor Albanese won the Singles #1 title and partnered with
Kolja Hein to take the Doubles A championship.
Mauricio Santos won the Singles #3 bracket, and finished runners-up with
Kevin Mboko in the Doubles B tournament. Eight Fighting Scots in total competed in the two-day classic.

Albanese opened the Saturday leg of his competition with a semifinals singles win over Charleston's Alec Foote, 6-3, 1-6, 10-6. The Brazil native then defeated West Liberty's Baptiste Perrin, 6-3, 6-7(5), 10-4, for the Singles #1 title.
Albanese and Hein breezed past West Virginia Wesleyan's Ramon Rodriguez and Pedro Nassar, 8-2, in the Doubles A semifinals. Their finals match offered familiar competition, with former Fighting Scot and Albanese's doubles partner
Camilo Moncayo and Santiago Gutierrez from West Liberty. Albanese and Hein won by an 8-4 score.
Mauricio Santos played nearly his entire singles competition Saturday after rain on Friday postponed his opening Singles #3 match against Davis & Elkins' Jack Clifton. He did not miss a beat, downing Clifton by 6-3 and 6-4 scores. The Spain native went on to beat West Virginia Wesleyan's Alex Lyudinovsky in the semifinals, 8-2, and Mercyhurst's Connor McCooey, 8-2, in the finals.
Mauricio Santos and Mboko continued their dominance from Friday by beating Mercyhurst's Dusan Cerny and Arseniy Sklyarov, 8-2, in the Doubles B semifinals. They would fall in the finals to West Liberty's Matt Tully Luke Flanagan by an 8-5 decision.

Daniel Fernandez and Mboko all reached the semifinals in their respective singles competitions. Hein competed in the Singles #6 bracket, while
Thomas McCoy and
Alexander Anderson played in the Doubles B bracket.
