EDINBORO, Pa. (September 14, 2016) – The Edinboro women's soccer team improved to 5-0-0 on Wednesday evening with a 3-0 win over visiting Seton Hill in a PSAC match at Sox Harrison Stadium. The win came one day after the Fighting Scots moved into 11th place in the NSCAA Division II Top 25, the highest ranking in team history. The 5-0-0 start is the best since the 2012 season, as Edinboro improved to 4-0-0 in PSAC action. Seton Hill fell to 1-3-1 overall and 1-3-1 in league play.
Shannon Regan gave Edinboro a 1-0 lead at 7:16 with her first goal of the season. The senior defender headed in a long pass from ten yards out from
Halle Hammer.
Edinboro then added two more goals in the second half. Junior
Coleen Brodman notched her third goal of the senior as she headed in a pass from
Abby Gillespie from 15 yards out at the 59:00 minute mark.
The lead grew to 3-0 as
Ashley Mutkus scored her third goal of the season at 76:06 on a shot from the far right, landing the ball into the upper left corner of the net. Freshman
Danielle Chatten assisted on the goal.
Edinboro held an 18-7 advantage in shots, with
Sarah Baskey picking up her second shutout of the season. The junior was credited with one save. The Griffins started freshman Elyza Pilatowski-Herzing in goal, and the former Mercyhurst Prep goalkeeper had eight saves in her first career start.
Edinboro returns to action on Saturday, September 17, playing at Kutztown in a 1 p.m. match.
