Fighting Scots Claw Out of 2-1 Hole to Defeat Saint Rose in Fifth Set

ALBANY, N.Y. (September 17, 2016) – For just the first time this season, the Edinboro University volleyball team went to a fifth set as they came back to defeat Saint Rose by a score of 3-2. With the win, the seventh consecutive for the Fighting Scots, Edinboro improves to 7-4 overall on the season and continues to roll into PSAC action, which opens up next weekend.
 
The first three sets of the day were hotly contested, as set required extra points and were decided by just two points. Edinboro took the opening set 26-24 before Saint Rose won the next two by scores of 27-25 and 26-24. The Fighting Scots dug deep, forcing a fifth set with a dominant 25-16 win.

Victoria Severo finished with 11 kills

The momentum continued into the extra set as the Fighting Scots ran away with a 15-8 victory as Challen Litwiler dropped the hammer with her team-high 15th kill to seal the comeback.
 
Litwiler led a trio of Fighting Scots finishing with double-digit kills. Seniors Latoya Hutchinson and Victoria Severo added 14 and 11 kills, respectively. Sydney Trathen continues to direct the Edinboro attack, finishing with a team-high 37 assists, her fourth consecutive game with more than 30 assists.
 
Severo also led the Fighting Scots with a season-high four service aces.
 
A trio of Fighting Scots also finished with double-digit digs, led by Hannah Cantrill with 21. Litwiler finished with 14 while Megan Screptock totaled 12. Hutchinson and Severo led the Fighting Scots defense with three block assists apiece.
 
Edinboro return's to McComb Fieldhouse on Friday, September 23 and Saturday, September 24 to open up conference play. Edinboro will host Lock Haven on Friday night and Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday.
