Trathen Records Eighth Double-Double as Slippery Rock Sneaks by Fighting Scots, 3-0

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team was poised to even the match at the end of the second set, but Slippery Rock was able to sneak by and defeat the Fighting Scots, 25-21, 27-25, 25-19, on Tuesday night.

The first set went back and forth as no team was able to score more than three points in a row. Edinboro held an early 6-5 lead before The Rock got ahead at 11-10. A kill by Challen Litwiler would bring the Fighting Scots within two at 23-21 before SRU closed out the first set, 25-21.

Much like the first set, no team held more than a 3 point lead until a kill by Cierah Jackson gave Edinboro the 15-11 advantage. Slippery Rock used a short run to tie the match up at 19. Kills by Paige Morris and Jackson would give Edinboro two set points at 24-22. After a Slippery Rock time out the Fighting Scots still led at 25-24, but a The Rock kill would give SRU the 2-0 lead in the match.

SRU would use a three-point run in the third set to close out the match, with The Rock taking the set 25-19.

Edinboro was led by senior Sydney Trathen, who recorded her 8th double-double of the season with 37 assists and 11 digs. Jackson led the attack for the Fighting Scots with 14 kills. Morris continues to be a force at the net with eight block assists. She now has 54 total blocks on the season.

The Fighting Scots are on the road this weekend with a pair of matches at Indiana(Pa.) and Clarion. The match with Indiana is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time on Friday, October 13.
