Mutkus Moves into Fifth Place on Career Goals List, But Fighting Scots Fall at Indiana(Pa.)

INDIANA, Pa. – The Edinboro women's soccer team ended a three-game road trip on Friday afternoon, as they fell at Indiana(Pa.), 4-1.

While the Fighting Scots (4-5-3, 3-5-3 PSAC) and Crimson Hawks (8-4-0,7-4-0) each had 14 shots in the contest, the difference was shots on goal, with Indiana(Pa.) out edging Edinboro, 12-5.

Gia Parlavecchio gave the Crimson Hawks an early 1-0 lead, when she connected on a breakaway opportunity at 1:47. Edinboro goalkeeper Sarah Baskey stepped out of the goalie box to prevent Parlavecchio from scoring, but the junior midfielder connected from far out tacking on her third goal of the season.

The Crimson Hawks increased their lead to 2-0 at 36:55, as Kallie Conte connected on a one-on-one scoring opportunity, with her shot going between Baskey's legs.

Just over five minutes into the second half, junior defender Hannah Stoof scored her first goal of the season for Indiana(Pa.) on a foul kick from midfield. But Ashley Mutkus would cut the goal deficit to two at 54:45, as her breakaway shot went past freshman goalkeeper Makenzie Witzel and into the right corner of the net for her ninth goal of the season. That goal moved Mutkus into sole possession of fifth place on the career goals list with 32, breaking a tie with Angie de Almeida.

Lexie Palluconi would increase her team-high in goals for the Crimson Hawks to four at 78:31. The senior forward's shot went to into the top right corner of the net on a pass from Conte.

Baskey had eight saves for Edinboro, while Witzel had four for Indiana(Pa.).
