EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The
Edinboro women's soccer team fell in a 4-2 decision at East Stroudsburg on Saturday at
Eiler-Martin Stadium.
The Fighting Scots (5-7-3 overall, 4-7-3 PSAC) had opportunities to score, as they outshot the Warriors (11-3-2, 11-3-1), 13-5 in the second half and 19-13 on the day. They also held a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal, and trailed by one goal at various points throughout the contest.
East Stroudsburg quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead, and never looked back. Junior Alex Pickett scored the first goal of each half, respectively, connecting on net for her fourth goal of the season at 4:22 off a Monica Wood assist, and her fifth goal at 53:29 from Danielle Cary.
Molly Vicari would notch her fourth goal of the season at 33:30, increasing East Stroudsburg's lead to 2-0. Pickett was credited with the assist.
One minute after the Warriors second goal of the day,
Ashley Mutkus shot and scored for her 12th goal of the season.
In the second half,
Edinboro would trail 3-1, and with nearly 12 minutes left in the contest. Redshirt Freshman
Rebecca Manns would provide the Fighting Scots with an opportunity to tie the game, as she notched third goal of the season at 77:52.
Kaylee Ferguson recorded her first point of the season.
However, with 48 seconds left in the game, Wood's setup Carry for her fourth goal of the season, and ended the Fighting Scots hopes of a comeback.
Mutkus ended the game as the ninth player in program history to score at least 12 goals in a season. She also moved into a tie for third place with 35 career goals, and a tie for fourth place with 84 career points.
The Fighting Scots will be back at Sox Harrison Stadium for their final home stand of the season against Pitt-Johnstown on Wednesday at 6 p.m., and on Saturday, Oct. 28 vs. Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. The Bloomsburg contest will also be
