EDINBORO, Pa. -- Dig for a Cure was a success on all fronts as the Edinboro volleyball team swept through Mercyhurst, 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-19), while raising funds for the Roswell Park Institute in Buffalo, N.Y. on Saturday evening. With the win, the Fighting Scots improve to 15-7 on the season and 5-6 in the PSAC while the Lakers fall to 7-15 and 2-9 in the PSAC.
Funds were collected throughout the weekend in honor of cancer awareness. There was a Chinese auction as well as players going through the stands to collect donations.
The Fighting Scots now hold a 41-11 all-time record against Mercyhurst.
Edinboro never trailed in any set on the afternoon taking a 5-1 lead in both the first and third set while having a 6-1 lead to start the second set.

Cierah Jackson was mixed in with three service aces by senior
Taylor Palowski at the beginning of the first set gave Edinboro the 5-1 lead. The closest the Lakers would get is three points with the Fighting Scots leading 13-10. Jackson's kill sealed the first set at 25-20.
The second set was much like the first with Edinboro taking the early lead. Mercyhurst tried to make a run mid-way through the second set, bringing the score to within four, 14-10. But the Fighting Scot responded winning seven of the next 11 points to take th 21-14 lead. A block by senior

Tessa Sikora finished the set at 25-17.
In the third set, Edinboro did not allow Mercyhurst to get more than three points in a row, clinching the set with a Jackson service ace, 25-19.
The defense was strong as the Fighting Scots had 10 blocks and 34 digs in the three-set victory inside McComb Fieldhouse. Redshirt junior

Offensively, coach
Missy Soboleski's team was led by Jackson with 11 kills on .391 hitting percentage. Junior
Sydney Trathen had 27 assists in addition to her seven kills and .778 hitting percentage. As a team, the Fighting Scots hit .342, the highest since the .343 hitting percentage against Assumption, a difference of only .001.
Edinboro remains home next weekend for a pair of contests against West Chester and Cheyney. The West Chester match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27. Senior Day will be held on against Cheyney on Saturday, October 21st, starting at 5:00 p.m.
