EDINBORO, Pa. -- Freshmen
Cierah Jackson and Molly Brier had 23 kills and 18 digs respectively to lead the Edinboro volleyball team as West Chester slips by 3-1 on Friday night at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots move to 15-8 overall and 5-7 in the PSAC. The Golden Rams improve to 19-6 and 8-5 in PSAC play.
Jackson's kill total was one shy of her season-high of 24, which she has posted on two different occasions. Brier's 18 digs was a team high and a new season high for the freshman.
The Fighting Scots jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead with three straight kills by Jackson. West Chester was able to even the score at 10-10 and 12-12. With the score tied at 13-13, the Golden Rams would go up by two points and then hold on for the 25-19 set one win.
Once again, Edinboro jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a kill by Jackson and a service ace by
Challen Litwiler. West Chester would take a small lead at 13-11 before the Fighting Scots tied it at 15-15 midway through the second set. West Chester used a four point run and hold on to take the second set, 25-22.
In a slight reversal, the Golden Rams took the first point of the third set and held a 7-4 lead early in the frame. A kill by freshman
Paige Morris and a pair of block assists by Litwiler,
Tessa Sikora and
Jill Glover would bring Edinboro back at 7-7. Edinboro used a 4-0 run to take a 14-10 lead midway through the set. With the score tied up at 20-20, both teams would hold a one-point advantage until the Fighting Scots were ahead 24-23. A Golden Rams attack error brought the match score to 2-1 in favor of the visitor.
Trailing 4-2 early in the fourth set, the Fighting Scots would come back and take a 9-7 lead over West Chester. A Golden Rams attack error and a kill by Jackson forced West Chester to take a timeout at 17-15 in favor of the visitors. Senior setter
Sydney Trathen would bring Edinboro within one on the next point with a service ace, but West Chester held on and won the set at 25-18.
Edinboro was led by Jackson's 23 kills and Trathen's 39 assists on the offensive side of the net. Brier, sophomore
Jordan Van Oss and Litwiler all reach double-digit digs with 18, 14, and 12 respectively. Glover's defense at the net showed with four block assists.
The Fighting Scots return to action at McComb Fieldhouse, tomorrow Saturday October 28 against Cheyney. The match has been moved up to 10 a.m. Edinboro will honor its five seniors before the match as they play in their last regular-season home match.
