Edinboro Clinches PSAC Tournament Berth with Five-Game Win at Mercyhurst

ERIE, PA. – The Edinboro volleyball team earned a berth in the PSAC Tournament on Friday night with a five-game win over local rival Mercyhurst. The Fighting Scots won by scores of 25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 18-25, 15-8 to improve to 21-8 overall and 10-7 in PSAC action. Mercyhurst fell to 10-18 and 5-12, respectively.

The victory, couple with Millersville's three-game loss to Pitt-Johnstown, gave Edinboro the final berth in the PSAC Tournament. The Fighting Scots will be on the road for a PSAC Quarterfinal match on Tuesday, November 14. Edinboro will be competing in the PSAC Tournament for the fourth straight year and tenth in head coach Missy Soboleski's 13 seasons.

Five games is nothing new for the Fighting Scots. They have gone to five games in nine matches this year, including the last two. They are 5-4 in those contests.

On Friday night, Soboleski's squad rode the 18-kill efforts of Challen Litwiler and Cierah Jackson. Litwiler, a senior, hit .342 and finished with a team-high 20 digs and four service aces. She now has 1,240 career kills, which ranks seventh all-time at Edinboro.

Fellow senior Sydney Trathen finished with 45 assists, boosting her career total to 4,268, which ranks third all-time. Jill Glover totaled nine kills, while Jessica Giannoccaro had 14 digs. Tessa Sikora had five total blocks (one solo, four assists).

Edinboro will wrap up the 2017 regular season on Saturday afternoon playing at Gannon. The Lady Knights lead the PSAC Northwest Division, but Edinboro won the first meeting in five games.
