EDINBORO, Pa. – With the fall portion of the season complete, the first set of ITA rankings have been released, which feature the Edinboro Men's Tennis team. Senior
Vitor Albanese and
Daniel Fernandez both make appearances on the singles rankings while the duo sits atop the doubles teams list.
Albanese ranks #1 in the Atlantic Region poll finishing the fall with an 11-4 overall record after claiming both the PSAC and Atlantic Region titles. He swept through the ITA Atlantic Region singles bracket, defeating Giorgi Datashvili of Bluefield St., 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the final, to win his second region title. Later, he became the first player in PSAC history to win the singles title three consecutive seasons.
Fernandez joins his teammate in the rankings after completing the fall with a 4-4 overall record. Ranked 16
th in the poll, he reached the round of 16 at the ITA Atlantic Region Championships.
The pair ranked first in the Atlantic Region after finishing the fall with a 14-2 record. They defeated Platon Gud and Ignacio Pulido of Bluefield State, 6-1, 7-6 (1) in the final of the Atlantic Region tournament. They only gave up three games in route to the PSAC doubles title, including an 8-1 win over Nenad Terzic and Unai Gonzalez of Mercyhurst in the final. Earlier in the fall, they won the Hilltopper Classic doubles title, hosted by West Liberty. At the ITA Oracle Cup, the Fighting Scots duo became the first PSAC team to advance to the semifinals in 23 years defeating the second-seeded team from Drury.
Edinboro returns to the court on Saturday, February 3 when then travel to for a dual match at Walsh. Match time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
