Mason Breaks Out of Early-Season Slump but Fighting Scots' Rally Comes Up Short in 82-72 Loss at Daemen

AMHERST, N.Y. – Jaymon Mason broke out of an early-season shooting slump with 32 points, and Anthony Coleman added 25, but a late Edinboro rally came up short as the Fighting Scots suffered an 82-72 loss at Daemen on Tuesday night. The loss dropped the Fighting Scots to 4-1, while Daemen improved to 4-2 with the win.

After four straight home games, Edinboro played its first game on the road. The Fighting Scots quickly found themselves behind 15-0 after missing their first eight shots and turning the ball over four times.

Daemen never trailed in the contest, and the Wildcats would build a 23-point lead at 37-14 late in the first half. A 12-2 Edinboro run, with Mason scoring 10 points, pulled the Fighting Scots to within 39-26, but Daemen would end the half with a 41-28 lead.

The Wildcats built the lead to as much as 24 points at 70-46 with 8:24 remaining in the game. Over the next seven minutes, the Fighting Scots went on a 23-7 run to close the gap to 77-69 with 1:15 to play when Coleman hit a pair of free throws. Coleman had eight points in the run, Mason seven, and Keyshawn Liggins six.
Daemen was able to hold off the Fighting Scots down the stretch as Edinboro was forced to foul. The Wildcats made five of six free throws in the final minute to
halt the Boro's comeback.

Mason, Edinboro's third all-time leading scorer, entered the game shooting just under 33 percent on the season and averaging 13.0 ppg. The senior guard would make 8-of-17 field goals, including 6-of-12 3-pointers, and went 10-of-11 at the line to finish with a season-high 32 points. It was his 14th career game of 30-or-more points as he became just the third Fighting Scot with 1,600 career points, boosting his career total to 1,616 points.

Coleman, a junior guard, topped the 20-point mark for the third time in five games with 25 points. He 9-of-17 field goals, including 5-of-9 3-pointers, and went 2-for-3 at the line.

???????Liggins came in averaging 24.3 ppg., but the senior forward would fail to score his first basket until just under ten minutes remained in the contest. He would warm up late in the game to fall a basket shy of his fourth straight double-double, finishing with eight points and 12 rebounds, matching his season high.

???????Daemen would showcase four players in double figures, led by Deion Hamilton with 18 points. He added seven rebounds. Jay Sarkis added 14 points, with Aleks Miljenovic contributing 12 points and seven rebounds and Jeff Redband finishing with 10 points. Andrew Sischo had a team-high nine rebounds.

???????Edinboro shot 37.3 percent for the game (22-of-59), making good on 12-of-32 3-pointers. The Fighting Scots went 16-of-25 at the line. Daemen ended the game shooting 48.5 percent from the floor (32-of-66), including 5-of-15 on 3-pointers, and was 13-of-26 at the line.

???????Daemen dominated the glass, 49-36, and forced Edinboro into 16 turnovers while committing 13. The Wildcats held a 25-5 advantage in points off turnovers, and outscored Edinboro, 48-20, in the paint.

???????Edinboro returns to action this weekend with a pair of PSAC crossover games. The Fighting Scots play at Mansfield on Saturday, December 2 and at Lock Haven on Sunday, December 3. Both games tip off at 3 p.m.
