Glover Leads Edinboro to 3-0 Sweep Over Host Kutztown in PSAC Action

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Senior Jill Glover's play on both sides of the net helped the Edinboro volleyball team get their five-match road trip off to a great start Friday night. The Fighting Scots picked up a 25-17, 26-24, 25-17 win over host Kutztown to improve to 17-8 overall and 7-7 in the PSAC. The Golden Bears fell to 7-19 and 2-11 in conference play.

Glover recorded nine kills and three blocks in the sweep.

Led by seniors Tessa Sikora and Challen Litwiler's three kills each, the first set saw six different Edinboro players record a kill. The two teams went back and forth early on with the score tied at 5-5. The Fighting Scots used a 7-2 run to pull ahead. A Kutztown error ended the first set in favor of the visitors, 25-17.

The start of the second set was much like the first. Both teams would score on runs of three to even the score at 7-7. A quick two-point run by the Fighting Scots was answered by Kutztown to once again even the score at 9-9. The Golden Bears would take a slim 15-13 lead before Edinboro used a 4-1 run to take a 17-16 advantage. With the set notched at 19-19, a kill by freshman Cierah Jackson and a block by senior Sydney Trathen forced Kutztown to take a time out with Edinboro leading 21-19. A senior Jill Glover kill followed by a Jackson service ace gave Edinboro the 26-24 set-two win.

Through the first two sets, Edinboro held advantages in kills (29-25) and attack percentage (.263-.139).

Much like the first two sets, the third went back and forth early on. With the Fighting Scots leading 7-6, a quick three-point run would force the Golden Bears to take their first time out of the set at 10-6, Edinboro. A service ace capped off a 4-1 by sophomore Jordan Van Oss gave Edinboro the 14-7 lead. The closest Kutztown got was within six at 23-17 before the Fighting Scots sealed the sweep with another Van Oss ace.

Jackson led the offense with 10 kills while Trathen guided it with 33 assists. Sikora, Trathen and freshman Paige Morris each tallied two blocks in the match. Litwiler's 18 digs was a match high.

Edinboro will play Saturday, November 4th against East Stroudsburg starting at 12 noon. They will turn right around and play their final non-conference match of the regular season against Mercy (not Mercyhurst) at 2:30 p.m. Both matches are being played on the campus of East Stroudsburg.
