Fighting Scots Start Fast and Cruise to 94-52 Win at Lock Haven for 7-0 Start

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Fueled by a torrid start, the Edinboro women's basketball team improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the PSAC with a dominating 94-52 win at Lock Haven on Sunday afternoon. The loss dropped the Bald Eagles to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play. Edinboro is ranked 24th in the latest WBCA Division II Top 25 and is 16th in the D2SIDA Top 25.
 
Edinboro never trailed in the contest as all 11 players scored. The Fighting Scots made their first nine shots and led 33-13 after one quarter. They would make 13-of-19 shots in the opening 10 minutes, including 5-of-7 3-pointers. Lock Haven, meanwhile, shot just 30.3 percent (4-of-13) in the opening quarter while committing seven turnovers.
 
Jontay Walton opened the game with a layup, and following an LHU turnover, the redshirt junior guard drained a three for a 5-0 lead. The lead reached double figures at 15-4 on a Michelle Jahn 3-pointer with 7:23 remaining in the period. With 2:52 remaining, Cheniya Sharpe pulled down an offensive rebound and scored on a layup for a 27-7 advantage.
 
Edinboro never led by less than 20 points the rest of the way as the Fighting Scots led 54-31 at the half and 71-39 after three periods. The final score represented the largest lead of the game.
 
Walton led four players in double figures with 24 points. She made 8-of-18 field goals, including 3-of-6 3-pointers, and went 5-for-6 at the line. Walton added four assists and four steals.
 
Jahn canned 5-of-8 3-pointers and finished the day with 17 points, along with five rebounds and four assists. Michaela Barnes and Sharpe added 11 points apiece. Barnes was 5-of-8 from the floor and had three steals. Sharpe came off the bench to make 4-of-5 field goals and 3-of-4 free throws. Ciara Rosten led Edinboro with eight rebounds and blocked three shots.
 
Rileigh Devine led Lock Haven with 12 points, while Ahnera Parker finished with 11.
 
Edinboro ended the game shooting 47.3 percent (35-of-74) from the floor, including 12-of-25 3-pointers. Lock Haven was limited to 27.1 percent, making just 16-of-59 shots. The Bald Eagles were 3-of-14 on 3-pointers.
 
Lock Haven held a 48-41 rebounding edge, but Edinboro forced 28 turnovers while committing just nine. That led to a huge 32-3 advantage in points off turnovers.
 
Edinboro returns to action with another PSAC crossover contest, playing on the road at Cheyney on Saturday, December 9.
