Women's Lacrosse Comeback Comes Up Short in 8-4 Defeat at Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. (March 15, 2017) – The Edinboro University women's lacrosse team battled back from an early 4-0 deficit at Wingate on Wednesday afternoon to trail, 4-3, at halftime. The Fighting Scots would score just one goal in the second half, however, as the Bulldogs scored four second-half goals to hand Edinboro an 8-4 defeat. The Fighting Scots are 1-2 on the year, while Wingate jumped to 5-2. The match marked the second of head coach Caitlin Formato's team's three-match spring break trip.

Stephanie Chido led Edinboro with two goals on the day, with both coming in the first half. Emily Peters added a goal, which moved her into sole possession of fifth place in the Edinboro record books with 94 career goals. Rachel Olson contributed to the scoring by netting her first goal of the season.

The Bulldogs scored their first four goals in the first 6:19 of the contest, with Shannon O'Neal tallying two of her match-high three goals in that span. Chido put Edinboro on the board with a goal with 17:54 to play in the half to trim the Bulldogs' lead to 4-1. Olson tacked on another goal with 5:53 remaining in the half, while Chido tallied her second goal with just 11 seconds before halftime to put Wingate on its heels heading into the locker room.

The Bulldogs opened the second half with two straight goals to lead, 6-3, with 23:02 remaining. Peters looked to rally the Fighting Scots with a goal to put the Boro within two goals at 6-4 with 15:13 to play. It would be Edinboro's last goal of the match, though, as Wingate closed out the scoring with goals from O'Neal and Andrews. O'Neal and Andrews finished tied for the match lead with three goals apiece.

Goalkeeper Paige Skinner recorded nine saves, including five in the second half, and collected a team-high four ground balls as she dropped to 1-2 on the year. Wingate's Arion Pierre also had nine saves to improve to 5-2 on the season.
