BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team rallied from three goals down in the second half, only to see Bloomsburg score twice in the final seven minutes for an 11-10 defeat of the Fighting Scots. The loss drops Edinboro to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC, while the Huskies improved to 5-2 and 2-1, respectively.
Edinboro led 4-3 at the half, but Bloomsburg scored five of the first six goals in the second half to take an 8-5 lead with just under 19 minutes remaining. The Fighting Scots rallied back with four straight goals over a span of just over five minutes to take a 9-8 lead.
Kayla Thomas started the rally with her second goal of the season, assisted by
Erin Gordon, with 17:58 remaining. Just over a minute later,
Emily Peters scored off a pass from
Olivia Potts to make it 8-7.
Thomas and
Rachel Olson would score on free position goals to give Edinboro a 9-8 advantage with 12:40 remaining. It marked the fourth lead change of the match.
Bloomsburg answered with three straight goals, tying the match at 9-9 on Taylor Turner's goal with 9:11 to play. Tracy Rusen gave the lead back to the Huskies at 10-9 with 6:51 to play.
Edinboro would gain possession off a turnover with two minutes remaining, but the Fighting Scots gave the ball back on a turnover. Bloomsburg's Sydney Collins scored what would turn out to be an important insurance goal with 1:36 left.
The Fighting Scots weren't done. Peters scored 20th goal of the season on a free position goal, one of seven for Edinboro in the game, to make it 11-10 with 54 seconds to play.
Edinboro would position of the ball on the ensuing draw, but the Fighting Scots never had an opportunity to attempt a shot. The 26th turnover of the game ended the rally.
Bloomsburg finished with a 36-21 advantage in shots. Edinboro would hold a 4-3 lead at the half as
Paige Skinner was outstanding in goal. The Huskies took 24 shots to eight for Edinboro in the first half, with Skinner recording 14 saves. The junior would end the day with 17 saves.
Thomas and Peters scored three goals apiece for Edinboro, while
Haleigh Wright had a pair.
Elysia Garland and
Rachel Olson accounted for the other two goals.
