Fighting Scots Suffer Last-Second Defeat to Shippensburg on Saturday

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro University women's lacrosse team suffered a heartbreaking defeat on Saturday afternoon as Shippensburg scored at the horn to pick up an 8-7 victory at Sox Harrison Stadium. With the loss, the Fighting Scots fell to 2-13 overall and 0-10 in the PSAC while the Raiders improved to 7-8 and 3-8, respectively.

Saturday's contest seemed destined for overtime before a clearing pass sent from midfield to Shippensburg's Allison Fugate set up the game winning goal as the horn sounded. After deliberation, the officials confirmed the goal was scored before the clock expired and the Raiders were awarded the victory.

The Raiders game winner came on the heels of an incredible effort by the Fighting Scots to knot the game up at 7-7 just over a minute earlier. Down a man and trailing 7-6, Emily Peters forced a turnover and found a streaking Sidney Dobbins down the field. Dobbins broke away from the defense and slid the ball in behind the goalkeeper for her first goal of the season.

The sequence perfectly encapsulated the second half as the score was tied three occasions. The Fighting Scots tied the contest up for the first time in the second half halfway through the period. Edinboro found themselves in a 5-2 hole to open the half, but three straight goals by Edinboro knotted things up at 5-5 with 15:09 remaining.
