Peters Nets Four, Skinner Saves 13 in 15-6 Defeat to East Stroudsburg

EDINBORO, Pa. (April 7, 2017) – The Edinboro University women's lacrosse team hoped that cold and snowy conditions at Sox Harrison Stadium would help them freeze PSAC-foe East Stroudsburg in a Friday afternoon contest. The Fighting Scots trailed just 7-5 at halftime, but were outscored, 8-1, in the second as the Warriors handed Edinboro a 15-6 defeat. Edinboro dropped to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in the PSAC, as ESU improved to 8-2 and 4-1, respectively.

Friday's match was originally scheduled for 2:00 p.m., but heavy snowfall earlier in the day caused the game to be pushed back one hour. The contest was also the first of a two-match PSAC weekend homestand for Edinboro, as they will play Kutztown on Saturday, which is set for 2:00 p.m.

Emily Peters tallied a match-high four goals, including three in the first half. Haleigh Wright and Stephanie Chido each had a goal in the contest, with Wright, Elysia Garland and Rachel Olson each registering an assist.

Peters, a senior midfielder, moved into sole possession of fourth place on the Edinboro all-time scoring list with 135 points on 113 goals and 22 assists. The native of Clarence Center, N.Y. needs just 12 more goals to pass Shannon Rohrich for number one all-time on the Edinboro career goals list.

Goalkeeper Paige Skinner had 13 saves for Edinboro, including blocking away three free-position shots, as she fell to 1-9 on the year. Tatyana Petteway finished with seven saves for the Warriors as she improved to 6-2.

East Stroudsburg led, 34-17, in shots, and 28-13 in shots on goal. Edinboro converted on 9-of-21 clears, compared to 12-of-17 for the Warriors, and committed 29 turnovers to ESU's 18. The Fighting Scots and Warriors fared 1-for-5 and 2-for-5, respectively, on free position chances.

The Fighting Scots drew first blood less than one minute into the match after Peters netted a score from Garland for a 1-0 lead. After two straight East Stroudsburg free-position goals from Hana Cicerelle and Chessie Rahmer, Edinboro returned the favor with scores from Chido and Wright to go back up, 3-2, with 20:35 left in the first half. It would be the Boro's last lead of the match, though, as the Warriors scored four straight goals over the next 13-plus minutes. Peters broke Edinboro's silence with a man-up goal from Wright and, after another ESU score from Rylie Toomey, tallied her third goal of the match from Olson with 2:32 in the half to cut the Warriors' lead to two at intermission.

East Stroudsburg looked to pull away by scoring the first three goals in the closing half for a 10-5 lead with 22:56 to play in the match. Peters' fourth score of the game kept Edinboro in the contest at 10-6 with 21:38 remaining, but it would stand as Edinboro's last goal of the contest. The Warriors reeled off four more goals over nearly the next 11 minutes, with both sides being held scoreless for the remaining 10:42 of the match. Skinner had four of her seven second-half saves in that final stretch.

TJ Jefferies led the contest with five points for ESU on two goals and three assists. Lauren Green and Rahmer each had four points, with Rahmer and Emma Rufalo leading the Warriors with three goals.
