Dave Habat Takes Bronze Medal for Slovenia at European Championships

NOVI SAD, Serbia (May 5, 2017) – Former Edinboro University wrestling All-American Dave Habat posted a bronze medal finish for Slovenia in the 65 kg freestyle category at the recent 2017 European Championships. The former two-time All-American for the Fighting Scots became the first-ever European medalist for Slovenia after defeating Ukraine's Gor Ogannesyan, 10-3, in the third-place match.
 
Habat earned a first-round bye in the 19-man field before falling to Bulgaria's Borislav Novachkov, 6-2, in the second round of the championship bracket. The Cleveland, Ohio native went on to defeat Belarus' Viktar Serada on a technical fall, 14-4, that set up his bronze-medal match against Ogannesyan.
 
The 2015 Edinboro graduate concluded his career under head coach Tim Flynn ranked fifth in career wins at Edinboro with a 134-27 career record. His .832 winning percentage ranks 14th all-time. A four-time national qualifier, Habat earned All-American status at 149 lbs. after placing fourth in 2014 and finishing as the runner-up in 2015. He was a four-time PSAC titlist and two-time EWL champion.
