McGill Falls in Consolation Second Round

Philadelphia -- Edinboro 184 pounder Jared McGill wrapped up his collegiate wrestling career after falling 6-3 in the second consolation round of the NCAA Championships Friday afternoon in the Wells Fargo Center.

McGill faced off with a familiar opponent in Rider's Isaac Dean. The two wrestlers finished the first period scoreless. McGill started the second in the bottom position and scored an escape 10 seconds into the period. McGill was the agressor in the rest of the period earning a stall call against Dean with 36 seconds remaining in the second. Dean evened the score in the third, 1-1, with an escape seven seconds in and the score would remain that way sending the match to sudden victory.

In the first sudden victory period, the wrestlers were scoreless. In the tiebreaker period, Dean scored a reversal with nine seconds remaining and McGill escaped to make it 3-2 heading to the second half of the first tiebreaker. McGill scrambled out and after initially not being awarded a escape, a successful coaches challenge awarded him the escape and a second successful challenge left the riding time at even. The 3-3 tie with no advantage in riding time forced a second one-minute sudden victory period. Dean scored a takedown 32 seconds into the second sudden victory to claim the 6-3 decision.

McGill finished he season 13-7 overall.
