Six Fighting Scots wrestlers named to Academic All-MAC Team

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Mid-American Conference recognized 59 wrestlers across the league on the 2025-26 Academic All-MAC Team, and Edinboro placed six student-athletes on the prestigious list, tying Ohio for the third-most honorees in the conference.

The award highlights student-athletes who excel both academically and competitively, requiring a minimum 3.20 cumulative GPA and significant participation during the season.

Leading the group was 184-pound senior Jared McGill, who capped off a strong season by advancing to the second day of the NCAA Championships. McGill earned a hard-fought consolation victory over Indiana's Sam Goin to keep his national tournament run alive, showcasing resilience on college wrestling's biggest stage. A Business Administration major with a 3.59 GPA, McGill has been a consistent presence in the lineup and a leader both on and off the mat.

Ryan Burgos continued to compete against the nation's elite, qualifying for the NCAA Championships and gaining invaluable experience at the national level. Burgos, a senior majoring in Advanced Study in Education with a 3.80 GPA, battled Arizona State's Nicco Ruiz and Princeton's Ty Whalen, underscoring Edinboro's commitment to competing at the highest level while maintaining academic excellence.

Ryan Michaels represented the Scots at 149 pounds, earning NCAA Championship experience as well. The senior Interdisciplinary Studies major (3.81 GPA) fought through a challenging national bracket and narrowly missed advancing, finishing the year with momentum gained from postseason competition.

Sophomores Parker Sentipal and Chris Vargo highlighted the program's future, pairing strong academic resumes – 3.76 GPA in Exercise Science for Sentipal and an impressive 3.84 GPA in Sports Management for Vargo – with steady contributions throughout the 2025-26 campaign. Their recognition emphasizes the depth of academically driven talent within the program.

Rounding out the group was junior Brody Evans, a Secondary Education major with a 3.79 GPA. Evans continued his development within a demanding MAC schedule, helping solidify the Fighting Scots' lineup while earning Academic All-MAC honors for his work in the classroom.
