Brodman Scores on Penalty Kick in Final Minutes for 3-2 Win at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Edinboro women' soccer team scored twice in the final five minutes to shock Shippensburg, 3-2, in a PSAC match on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Scots are now 1-0-1 over and in PSAC action, while the Raiders are 0-1-1 in both.
 
In Thursday's 2-2 season-opening tie with Slippery Rock, Edinboro rallied from a 2-0 deficit but could not get the winning goal. On Saturday, a young Fighting Scots' team which once again started four freshmen, found itself trailing 2-1 after Shippensburg's Isabella Weigel broke a 1-1 tie in the 71st minute.

Ashley Mutkus would knot the score at 2-2 with her second goal of the game off a pass from Maggie Fragapane, as the senior scored from five yards out just inside the left post at 85:08. Just over two minutes later, at 87:21, a Shippensburg foul awarded Edinboro a penalty shot. Coleen Brodman fired the ball past goalkeeper Delaney Shifflett for the game-winning goal.
 
Shippensburg's Kiersten Priest opened the scoring with a goal off a corner kick at 14:09. The score remained that way at the half despite Edinboro holding a 9-6 advantage in shots. Mutkus tied the contest just over five minutes into the second half on an unassisted goal from 30 yards out.
 
Edinboro ended the match with a 17-12 edge in shots, with Shifflett recording six saves. Sarah Baskey was credited with five saves for Edinboro.
 
The Fighting Scots return to action on Wednesday, September 6 at local rival Gannon.
