Edinboro Splits a Pair of Matches in Day Two of Rebich Investments Invitational, Litwiler Reaches 1,000 Career Kills

EDINBORO, Pa . – The Edinboro volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday as day two of the Rebich Investments Invitational concluded. The Fighting Scots defeated West Virginia Wesleyan in the morning in four games by scores of 25-14, 25-12, 24-26, 25-12, before tasting defeat for the first time in 2017 with a five-game loss to Bellarmine by scores of 22-25, 25-19, 26-24, 14-25, 13-15. The Fighting Scots are now 3-1 after the opening weekend of the season.
 
The Rebich Investments Invitational All-Tournament Team included a pair of Fighting Scots, Challen Litwiler and Cierah Jackson. Litwiler joined the 1,000-kill club in Edinboro's loss to Bellarmine, and also became the career record holder in career service aces. Jackson enjoyed an outstanding start to her career, including 20 kills against Bellarmine.

Head coach Missy Soboleski was able to substitute liberally while improving to 3-1. Hannah Cantrill led the Fighting Scots with 11 kills and added 20 assists. Challen Litwiler had 30 digs, while Sydney Trathen had a team-high 28 assists. The senior setter added five service aces. Cierah Jackson contributed nine kills.     
 
BELLARMINE 3, EDINBORO 2
The Fighting Scots led two games to one after three games, but the Knights dominated the fourth game, 25-14, then edged Edinboro in the deciding fifth game by a score of 15-13. A trio of Fighting Scots were in double figures in kills, led by freshman Cierah Jackson's 20 kills. She added four block assists. Challen Litwiler added 19 kills. In the process, the senior joined the 1,000-kill club at Edinboro with 1,010. She added 17 digs and had two service aces. Sydney Trathen ended the match with 50 assists and 17 digs, while Megan Screptock led the Scots in digs with 18. Freshman Paige Morris totaled six block assists.
 
Edinboro returns to action next weekend, competing in the Saint Anselm Tournament on Friday, September 8 and Saturday, September 9.
